THE MEXICAN GOLD RUSH

MEXICAN GOLD RUSH

The Gold Rush of 2020 will be similar to California’s first gold rush in 1849 that brought over 300,000 people to California searching for their dreams in the Promised Land. But this time it will be different, it will primarily be Americans looking for their Golden Years at the end of the rainbow somewhere in Mexico.
Immigration to Mexico is coming from all over the world. This includes many young people ages 30-50 who are working as entrepreneurs, techies in Guadalajara’s Silicon Valley and many in the tourist industry. Currently there is over 1 million Americans living in Mexico, some are seasonal, some are baby boomers and many are fulltime residents.
Americans are retiring at a rate of ten thousand people a day. That’s almost 4 million people a year. Approximately 76 million people were born between the years 1946 and 1964…this is the baby boomer generation and they are heading south.
There are many reasons why there will be an exodus from the US. Politics has spiraled downward to an embarrassing level, cost of living, taxation without representation, escalating violence, increasing police state and big brother cameras on every corner…where have all the flowers gone?
And there are numerous reasons why Mexico will be their destination. The incredible lifestyles, climate, low cost of healthcare, housing, food, travel, property taxes and similar cultural values within close proximity to the US.
Just as the immigrants from Mexico influenced the lives and future of the Americans over the last 100 years, the baby boomers are affecting the lifestyles of the Mexicans in the 21 century. And it happens so slowly and naturally that it’s almost lost in the shuffle. Let’s call it the Anthony Bourdain syndrome, one person at a time, one conversation, one taxi ride, one marriage and the soup of life thickens.
As an expat living full time in Mexico since 2009, I have been watching this metamorphous for over the last 9 years. This Gold Rush is just beginning but it doesn’t take long after the word gets out.

The lifestyle and opportunity in Mexico has slowly been passed around over the last decade but now there is a big difference;
1. American Politics
2. Baby Boomers in their Golden Years
3. Improved healthcare in Mexico
4. International lifestyles now available in Mexico

When the prospectors of 1849 came to California they were following the dream of a better life.
Today the expectation is similar but the likelihood of finding that rainbow is much greater, a much better lifestyle…for sure, a chance of hitting the mother lode...maybe!

Mexico is more than a destination, it’s the destiny for thousands of people seeking their Golden Years…And they will not be disappointed!

The rush is now just a whisper but with 4 million people a year looking for a lifestyle of their dreams…it will soon become a scramble to the 21st Century Mexican Gold Rush!

Warren Buffet famously said: “I won the lottery when I was born is the US.”
He was certainly right!
Rex and Ricardo Say: “ If you are fortunate to find your way to Mexico as a
Final Destination…you just won the Powerball Lottery. You can decide the
veracity for yourself but it’s becoming common knowledge south of the border.
We all end up in Mexico for different reasons. I came to Mazatlan (2003) after
years of vacationing in PV. How refreshing, a true Mexican City with miles of
beaches and a laid back Expat community….Amazing….and I never looked back.
After graduating from the University of Washington, I spent 20 years in
construction as a union carpenter and building custom and spec homes as a
general contractor. After my 3rd knee surgery, I ventured into the real estate
industry and received a great education via Windermere R.E. Olympia Wn.
I was a licensed real estate agent in Washington State from 1995-2013 and
was co-owner of a start-up brokerage from 2002-2008, so venturing into the
Mexico real estate market was a natural process for me. I bought a condo in
2006 and within a couple of years I was coming to Mazatlan 5-6 times a year
and spending6 months in Mexico.
Life is Short if you’re lucky, very short if you’re not so lucky. So when the Great
Recession of 2008 devastated the US economy……..it was time for me to turn
in that lotto ticket and become a fulltime resident in Mexico.
I have been a licensed broker in Mazatlan, a member of the MLS (AMPI) and
Realtor Association since 2009. After four years of referral business in
Washington state, I retired my license in August, 2013.
My associate and director of MRG, Ricardo Angulo, was born in Mexico over 4
decades ago. He came to Mazatlan in 2000 for family business and fell in love
with the city. Soon thereafter becoming a full time Mazatleco. In 2006 he
began his career in real estate. Ricardo is bi-lingual, well versed in the
evolution of Mexico and has been a member of AMPI (MLS) and Realtor
Association since 2008. He is familiar with the legal channels in Mexico and
committed to continuous learning and updating, taking real estate courses
every year as laws and local destinations are changing rapidly. Recently, he
was honored as the moderator on the annual AMPI real estate course.
Ricardo loves the Mexican culture, the history of real estate and the
geographical diversity throughout Mexico. He is enthusiastic about sharing
his knowledge, contacts and experiences.
We have incorporated US standards into our documentation and fiduciary
responsibilities. We also work directly with our associates and affiliates in the
MLS (AMPI) who continue to provide leadership by example………..we are so
fortunate!
